Long Grove Welcomes in Autumn with Annual Apple Festival, September 21 – 22- 23

One of the Midwest’s biggest tributes to apple season takes place this September 21 – 23 in Historic Downtown Long Grove.  Apple Fest brings “bushels of fun” to the charming village it’s called home for 27 consecutive years.  From caramel apples to apple tempura, Apple Fest’s claim-to-fame are the hundreds of delicious apple-inspired treats for apple lovers young and old.  As always with a Long Grove festival, live music will play out all weekend long on two stages spread throughout fest grounds.  When fest-goers aren’t busy filling up on apple delicacies or rocking out to heart-pounding tunes, the Pop-Up Apple Orchard or the classic carnival is a refuge for entertainment, as is the Kid Zone with its legendary apple pie-eating contests and timeless interactive games.

During the 3-day event, festgoers are invited to peruse the timeless village of Long Grove, with its cobblestone walkways, historic buildings and independently-owned boutiques and specialty shops.

What sorts of Apple products specifically will be sold?
Chocolate, caramel, and candy covered apples, apple sangria, hard apple ciders, fresh apple cider donuts, spiced apple lattes,  granny apple popcorn, green apple cotton candy, a variety of farm fresh apples from Frank’s Farm Orchard.  
A large variety of apple desserts:  apple crisps, apple and goat cheese dumplings, apple cheesecake, apple pie, cinnamon apple ice cream, apple sugar cookie,  apple tempura. 
For the apple pie eating contest, can contestants use their hands?
No hands allowed, the rules are that the contestants get 2 minutes to eat as much as possible WITHOUT using their hands and whoever eats the most of the pie wins and the crowd is the judge.  
 
Will there be non-apple treats sold there as well?
Yes, of course!  With a confectionary, two candy stores, the Apple Haus and two ice cream shops in town that all take part in the festivities, there will also be a wide variety of chocolate, caramel, popcorn, and ice cream treats apple and non-apple to choose from.   Along with a variety from other participating food vendors.

Public parking lots fill up quickly and street parking is not available (cars will be towed) in most of downtown Long Grove near the residential subdivisions.  We highly recommend ride-sharing services or using the remote parking lot.

The Long Grove Lions Club and the Long Grove Community Church will have fundraisers as they charge for parking in the lots they control.

Apple Fest Food:

At the heart of Apple Fest is an open-air marketplace, where local vendors dole out locally-made, apple-inspired foods.   Apple Fest guests can choose from countless treats, including items like: chocolate caramel apples, candy covered apples, apple sangria, hard apple ciders, fresh apple cider donuts, spiced apple lattes, granny apple popcorn, green apple cotton candy, apple crisps, apple goat cheese dumplings, apple cheesecake, apple pie, cinnamon apple ice cream, apple sugar cookie, apple tempura, a variety of farm fresh picked apples from Frank’s Farm Orchard, and much more.

Apple Fest Fun Entertainment:

In addition to three-days of delectable apple concoctions from apple vendors, festers can also participate in exciting, complimentary family activities.  The Kid Zone at Apple Fest continues all weekend long with a wide-variety of apple-themed throwback games, and arts and crafts for ages 3 – 13.  The headline event in this area each day is the legendary apple pie eating contest – for kids and adults.  Besides all the apple fun, the other big entertainment draw at Apple Fest is the live music acts playing continuously on several stages spread out through fest grounds.

Apple Fest Shopping:

During Apple Fest weekend, festers are invited to peruse the cobblestone walkways of historic downtown Long Grove and enjoy specials at many of the charming shops, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants.   Merchants roll out the red carpet for visitors during fest weekend.
